We are based south of Sambava in the Antalaha district (the old capital of SAVA, and the home of the world’s best vanilla) and love to get visitors! You may even come with us into the countryside during the green season when we round up our beans, or during the European autumn when we cure, boil, roll, and further sun the beans to bourbon perfection! There are roughly 4 good hotels in town, and the security in this part of Madagascar is excellent. We have never heard or seen a single incident involving a tourist or foreign guest.
To arrive and see us, you fly into TNR (Tana Airport) or NOS (Nosy Be Airport) and connect (with at least one entire additional day) to SVB (Sambava Airport) and head south. If you’d like to see Marojejy and Masoala, we can arrange these with ease. If you’d like to simply see and choose and pickup your vanilla order or make one, you can tour the vanilla making and farm, and meet everyone, ask questions, and enjoy.
You are advised to always bring Travel insurance to Madagascar as flights are frequently cancelled. We haven’t seen malaria in Antalaha to Vohemar on the vanilla coast corridor, but we have seen it in Cap Est and Masoala Forest as well as leeches. We only speak French, English, and Malagasy but we can round up friends to accommodate Japanese, Chinese, Korean, German, and Spanish. If you’d like to make a documentary, we’ve helped with several for European and American journalists and channels!
